SICAMM Foundation
International Association for the Protection of Apis mellifera mellifera
SICAMM exists for the the conservation of Dark European honey bee Apis mellifera mellifera and the promotion of its husbandry among beekeepers.
The Foundation seeks to realise these objects by:
- Offering a communication platform for beekeepers, scientists and politicians;
- Support of scientific and applied projects, including the raising and donation of funds with the aim to protect the dark European honey bee Apis mellifera mellifera locally and across Europe;
- Raising awareness of the importance to preserve conservation areas for original Apis mellifera mellifera populations; and,
-
Publication of scientific and applied monographs, periodicals and articles in magazines and journals.
SICAMM was founded in 1994 as a special interest group for the conservation, protection and promotion of the dark European honey bee.
SICAMM’s goal was to connect throughout Europe all the national and local groups, working with the dark honey bee.

At the 2018 Finland conference, the participants decided that the loose association of SICAMM members should be constituted as a formal organisation to increase communication and influence. Thus, on November 14th, 2019, the SICAMM Foundation was registered as a non for profit Foundation based in the Netherlands.
SICAMM Foundation now comprises a main board below which sit a scientific board and a board of representatives. These three groups and their members are thus well-placed to link with stake-holding bodies, organisations and individuals.
Due to the pandemic, the planned 2020 conference (due to have been held in Ireland) was postponed, and so the board organised SICAMM Foundation’s first ever online conference in October 2021.
Delegates at the first SICAMM conference, held 1995 in Flekkefjord, Norway.
